Bathroom Sink Organizer to the Rescue!

I don’t know if any of you bloggers out there ever fall off the wagon when you get sick, but now I know for sure… I do.

But five days, a whole bottle of Tylenol PM, two infected kids and 16 whole hours of sleep later, I can breathe again, so I’m back!

While I was sick, for some reason I thought it was a good time to try and tackle the problem of there always being stuff on my tiny sink.  Like, clutter-ish type stuff.  And it makes me crazy.  Especially since I am prone to accidentally knocking it all off while I’m washing my face.  (Yes, I’m a gesticulator.)   So, some Ikea window-shopping happened, and this is what I found:

It’s the Mogden stainless steel wall shelf with five hooks, and I think I’m in love with it.  It will fit very nicely between my sink and the mirror right over it, thereby getting everything off of my sink but still keeping it all handy.  For the hooks, I have my heart set on more of those Asker containers.  No idea if they fit, I’ll have to check next time I go to Ikea.

Still haven’t figured out a way around the “it clashes with the rest of my bathroom decor” problem, though.  For some reason I’m completely paranoid about trying to build anything myself, and even painting something myself is WAY out there.  Hopefully once I start doing it, it will get to be less scary.  Anybody have any great solutions for bathroom sink clutter?

  1. Spray paint really isn’t that scary. Just make sure you get the right stuff to cover metal and then let it cure for a day before hanging it up. If you don’t let it cure, your paint is much more likely to come off.

We also have a tiny bathroom counter. Drives me nuts but the good thing is that all our bathrooms have medicine cabinets. Drives me nuts also because they are not pretty and there’s lines in the mirror from the three different door panels. But I can live with it until I can do something about it.

    • Good to know about letting it cure – I think a big part of why it’s scary is because I have this… *thing* about spending money. Ever. Especially if it’s something that’s not directly life-sustaining. Makes for a happier feeling come budget-balancing time, but the rest of the time it’s highly stressful for both me and the hubbs.

Right now our medicine cabinet equivalent is a pyramid of plastic storage containers/drawers. Highly ugly, but stores most things pretty well, all things considered… especially considering that it also serves as my jewelry storage *and* vanity, or face/hair/skin care station. I’m endeavoring to change that, or at least to get some better-looking storage for everything.
